He’s led by example all season long……

It was therefore only fitting that our man Ryan Murphy captained his Asheville City FC side to a cherished NPSL Play-Off spot in their first ever season in existence.

The team, based in the Blue Ridge Mountain city of Asheville, has had a remarkable rise since their first match back in June and have been followed home and away by a fanatical and often partizan support, therefore it seems only right that they have responded to this backing by rewarding their fans with even more matches to attend.

They couldn’t have failed them really…The fans group, entitled the South Slope Blues have even coined a brilliant slogan – “Chant Cheer and Drink some Beers’ and they have made a brilliant and colourful contribution at every match across the southeastern Conference of the National Premier Soccer League this season.

With the points in the bag, the players and fans can now look forward to the Play-Off’s and yet another chapter of this amazing journey.

For Ryan, it’s been a dream season. He’s led the team from day one and has clearly loved every minute of playing in the dark blue Asheville City jersey. It will have been a proud moment for Ryan to know that his parents, Tony and Tilda have been in the stands with the many thousands of local fans and thus adding some Scottish voices to the support for the boys.

There was even time to sign some autographs.

Congratulations to Ryan and the team and everyone at Sporting Futures USA will be rooting for them in the play-offs.
