Cape Breton, Nova Scotia – In addition to winning the National Championship with Cape Breton University, Sporting Futures USA’s Freshman Student Athlete – Lewis White has been named in the University Sport Canada National Tournament All-Star XI on the back of some outstanding performances as the Caper’s captured their first ever title.

Former Glasgow Rangers and Scotland Starlet, Lewis, joined the Nova Scotia based university in August and has been an almost ever present as the team won both the AUS (Atlantic University Sport) Championship and then the U Sport Canada National Tournament in British Columbia last week.

His performances in the backline, alongside another of our student athletes – Euan Bauld, has allowed the Cape Breton University Men’s Soccer team to record an unbeaten run and achieve one of the meanest goals against records in the whole of Canada.

Known for his marauding runs and dangerous crosses, the Musselburgh native has been carving out quite a reputation as one of the best young defenders in Canadian university soccer these past few months and with another three years ahead of him in his career as a student athlete, big things are expected of him for the future.

Lewis himself is no stranger to expectations. Having signed for Glasgow Rangers in 2013 he quickly progressed through the age groups and was a key player in Ian Durrant’s Development squad.

National team recognition soon came his way and Lewis represented Scotland at youth level earning a number of caps.

Lewis made the decision to pursue his football abroad and opted for the opportunity to join Cape Breton University in Nova Scotia in early 2017. He did so with the express aim of helping the CBU Caper’s to win a National Championship and, to that end, he has achieved this aim within four months of touching down in Canada.

Being named as the outstanding left back in the National Tournament All-Star XI is a fantastic accomplishment and firmly cements his place as one of the most exciting young talent’s in the country.

Congratulations to Lewis on this terrific achievement from everyone back here at Sporting Futures USA.
