When Hard Work meets Talent then all sorts of things click into place…..

Our man Ollie Smith, at Goshen College in Indiana, is starting to see the fruits of his dedication to his life as a Student Athlete and this has seen him hit a rich vein of form at just the right time for Goshen College as they get set to approach the business end of the season when Crossroads Conference matches come into play at the end of September.

In September, it’s all about building consistency and form and Head Coach Arron Patrick clearly feels that an early season pep talk is having the desired effect as his young Yorkshireman starts to realise the immense potential we all know he possesses.

Ollie, a native of York, England, scored three goals and added five assists last week. Ollie also had a pair of assists in a 4-3 loss Monday at Holy Cross before adding two goals and two assists against Rochester on Wednesday.

He factored in eight of the team’s 10 goals across three matches including this cracker against Roosevelt University where he started and finished the move from deep in his own half.

With six assists so far this season, Ollie has matched the best mark of any Goshen College Maple Leaf since 2012 and is more than 40 percent of the way to Goshen’s single-season record of 14. His four goals are one shy of the most on last year’s club with 12 matches left in the 2017 campaign.

This sizzling form rarely goes unnoticed in the United States Collegiate system and we were delighted to note that Ollie has received a double accolade with the announcement that he has been named as the Goshen College Athlete of the Week whilst also being named as the Crossroads League Player of the Week.

The Maple Leafs enter September’s second week with a 4-2 overall record. Their only match this week is a 7 p.m. kickoff at home Saturday against the University of Saint Francis (Illinois).

The Goshen News Maple Leaf Athlete of the Week is selected each week by a panel of Goshen College administrators, coaches, media and faculty.

Congratulations to Ollie from everyone here at Sporting Futures USA……Keep up the Great Work.
